Dear Grade 5/6P,

Every year thousands of people around the world are injured or killed through the misuse of electricity.

Recently in Latrobe Valley we had a young electrician who was electrocuted whilst working on a home at Yallourn North.

Now that we have spent some time learning about electricity and the way it works I’d like you to create (in groups of three) a short movie clip to post on our blog discussing the things you need to know about electricity to stay safe. As a group you need to write a script for your movie and think about props that you might need. We’ll use the program ‘movie maker’ to put our safety videos together. Remember your movie needs to be a reminder to people about how to stay safe around electricity.

Good luck with your video…Ms Johnson, Mrs Pearce and I can’t wait to see what you produce!!!

3/4A CLASSROOM

For this week’s homework you are going to use a piece of writing to look at powerful language. Your homework will be due on Monday 15th of September.

Read the 100 word challenge and complete the tasks below.

The raging bulls charge towards us, exponentially building their speed and anger with every step they take. A wave of nerves sweep over me as I feel the unstable ground rumble like a devastating earthquake.

I try and sprint away from the massive bulls that chase me with their deadly horns and powerful bodies. Around me, people are recklessly screaming and running frantically, trying to avoid the stampeding bulls. What I thought was going to be an exciting challenge, is turning out to be a disastrous nightmare.

This week you have the following prompt you are to incorporate into a piece of writing.
‘….finally we can make a start…’

Unpack a seed, planning all the different scenarios you can think of using this prompt. Then choose the one idea you like the best to draft into a piece of writing.
Remember to follow the writing process, by rereading your work, proof reading it for mistakes and try and think of ways you could improve your piece of writing. Have you included emotive words? Have you thought about what you may feeling, think, see, hear and smell, in your writing? Have you thought about using synonyms? Remember, ‘dead’ words are boring to read and you want to keep your reader’s wanting more so make your writing as descriptive as possible.
Get 3 classmates to then read your work and take on board any feedback they give you. If…
